Heat-Line provides award-winning roof de-icing heating cable systems that not only perform in extreme cold climates, but are simple to install and can be accessorized to increase energy efficiency and reliability.
Heat-Line offers a wide range of roof de-icing accessories designed to complement their award-winning heating cable systems.:
– Patented roof channel flashing system EDGE-CUTTER
Heat-Line offers specialized mounting and installation hardware for roof de-icing jobs including heating cable roof mounting clips, heating cable guards, downspout hanger kits, energy-efficient snow control devices and sensors, and specialized roof adhesives.
Roof clips are engineered brackets designed to secure the heating cable to the roof surface.
Cable Guards are designed to provide mechanical protection for the Paladin for roof series heating cable where it may pass over or onto an edge, which may result in injury to the outer jacket of the heating cable.
Downspout hangers are designed to effectively suspend the Paladin for Roof series heating cable system in the gutter downspout while providing strain relief and mechanical protection against sharp edges within the downspout entrance.
Specialized roof adhesives provide a means of fastening Heat-Line roof- de-icing heating cable accessories, such as the EDGE-CUTTER and roof clips, to roof substrates with or without the use of mechanical fasteners.Snow control devices and sensors are a beneficial optional accessory when incorporated with any Heat-Line roof de-icing systems. Regardless of the overall system length and or operating voltage, a snow control device and sensor will reduce energy costs by decreasing overall energy consumption. In most applications, snow control devices offered by Heat-Line regulate based on specific ambient air temperatures, the degree of moisture in the air, and or the amount of blowing or falling snow.
The addition of snow control devices and sensors in roof de-icing applications reduces the actual amount of time the heating cable is under power. In most applications, snow control devices and or sensors can be added to Heat-Line roof de-icing systems in order to duty cycle the heating cables in applications where the temperature is less than 38F (3.3C) and perception or moisture is present. The result of the duty cycling is ON/OFF operation that vastly reduces energy costs. The combination of Heat-Line’s advanced self-regulating roof de-icing systems, with snow-control devices and sensors, can optimizes energy efficiency, resulting in the most energy-efficient roof de-icing system available.
Along with an award-winning line of roof de-icing heating cable systems, Heat-Line is proud to offer a full line of roof de-icing accessories to meet the needs of any residential, commercial and industrial application.

Q – Do I need to use EDGE-CUTTER with Paladin?
A – EDGE-CUTTER channel flashings are an optional accessory that can be used with the Paladin for Roof designed to provide an aesthetically pleasing roof de-icing system, eliminating traditional serpentine heating cable configurations. If EDGE-CUTTER is not required; the Paladin for Roof heating cable system can be mounted with Heat-Line roof clips and installed in a traditional serpentine pattern.
Q – Are serpentine or saw-tooth heating cable configurations necessary for roof de-icing?
A – No. Heat-Line developed EDGE-CUTTER as a clean and visually appealing, long-lasting roof de-icing system.
Q – Can you use EDGE-CUTTER on a metal roof?
A – Yes. EDGE-CUTTER channel flashing can be used on a metal roof. Heat-Line recommends the flashings be ordered with a 6-mil urethane membrane which would be factory installed directly onto the flashing to prevent galvanic oxidation and corrosion between dissimilar metals.
Q – Is the EDGE-CUTTER only used for the leading roof edge or can I use it up on my roof or in the valleys?
A – Yes. EDGE-CUTTER can be installed in valleys that require protection. Heat-Line offers flat and angled EDGE-CUTTER channel flashings to suit different application requirements and commonly recommends the flat model for valley applications.
Q – Are the aluminum EDGE-CUTTER caps available in different colours to blend in with the roof?
A – No. The EDGE-CUTTER caps and flashings can be painted to match the exact colour of roofing materials if desired.
Q – Can I (the homeowner) install EDGE-CUTTER?
A – Yes. Heat-Line provides proper and easy to follow installation instructions with all of our products, and offers market-leading technical support. As a result, most Heat-Line systems, including EDGE-CUTTER can be installed by homeowners; however, Heat-Line commonly recommends that a qualified tradesperson complete the installation process.
Q – Can I use constant wattage/hardware store heat tapes with EDGE-CUTTER?
A – No. Only self-regulating heating cables approved for roof applications be used with the EDGE-CUTTER system. It is not designed for constant wattage heating cables.
Q – Are Heat-Line Roof Clips installed with adhesive or fasteners?
A – Heat-Line roof clips can be installed with both approved fasteners and or adhesives. In many cases, a combination of both adhesives and fasteners prove to be the most secure option. Contact Heat-Line directly for a list of recommended adhesives.
Q – Where would you need a downspout hanger kit?
A – A downspout hanger kit would be required at the corner of the eavestrough and downspout. The downspout hanger kit prevents the heating cable from abrasion (mechanical damage) that could occur at the edge of the downspout and provides required support for the heating cable.
Q – Do I need one or two downspout hangers per downspout?
A – If you intend to run a single trace of heating cable within the downspout and finish the end of the heating cable within the downspout then you would only require a single downspout hanger. In an installation that you plan to run the heating cable down and back-up the downspout and continue through the eavestrough then you would require 2 downspout hangers.
Q – Are cable guards required for roof de-icing applications?
A – While cable guards are not always required, they are highly recommended to mechanical protect the heating cable anywhere along its length where it may come into contact with abrasive edges or corners.
Q – Are snow control devices and sensors required for Heat-Line brand heating cables?
A – No. Snow control devices and sensors are not required for the proper and safe operation of Heat-Line heating cable system as they are self-regulating and do not require high limit controls. However, in large residential and commercial/ industrial applications the addition of a snow control device and sensors will greatly increase operating efficiency.
Q – What is the difference between a PD-Pro and GF-Pro controller?
A – Both the PD-Pro and GF-Pro are automatic snow and ice melting controllers designed for roofs, gutters and downspouts in commercial and residential environments; however, the GF-Pro has an integral GFCI where the PD-Pro does not.
Q – What applications would require a MA-10 MilliAmp device?
A – According to the Canadian and National Electrical Codes all heating cable systems are required to be protected by a GFCI device for safe operation. All GFC model heating cable systems manufactured by Heat-Line are supplied with a 27 milliamp GFCI. In applications where a hard-wired or CS model Paladin for Roof is required, GFCI protection must be supplied and installed by the installing professional. For hard-wired or CS model roof de-icing applications that are not installed with a GF-Pro controller Heat-Line offers the MA-10 MilliAmp GFCI device.
Q – If I purchased a GF-Pro controller and a CS Model Paladin for Roof heating cable system do I require a MA-10 MilliAmp device?
A – No. The GF-Pro controller comes with an integral GFCI so an additional GFCI device, like the MA-10, is not required.
Q – What is the difference between a GIT-1 gutter and CIT-1 snow external sensors?
A – The CIT-1 sensor is engineered to detect falling or blowing as precipitation and temperature, where the GIT-1 is designed to strictly sense moisture and temperature. The GIT-1 is designed to be installed within gutters for added accuracy, where the CIT-1 is designed for mast or roof mounting.
Q – Do the GF-Pro and PD-Pro controllers require both the GIT-1 and CIT-1 external sensors?
A – No. Both the GF-Pro and PD-Pro controllers require at least one additional sensor to operate in an automatic snow control application. For roof de-icing applications there is the choice of either the GIT-1 and or CIT-1 sensors, but for even more accuracy and control a combination of both is preferable.
