The Philmac 3G Compression series of fittings provide a compact, lightweight, and user friendly design that reduces the overall possibility of pipe twist while reaming completely serviceable. Projected Life of Compression Fittings

Philmac 3G Compression fittings are engineered and manufactured to exceed the established 50 year life expectancy required for polyethylene pipe and fitting materials. Philmac has taken every step necessary to ensure that every aspect of their fitting, including materials and design, is intended for life expectancies greater than those simply required.

Head Losses

To calculate head loss, the 3G Compression fittings can be replaced with an equivalent length of pipe. The following formula is used to estimate this equivalent length of polyethylene pipe based on the transmission of water;

Resistance to Impact

Philmac 3G Compression fittings are constructed with the highest quality thermoplastic materials available, which provide excellent resistance to impact as per ASTM D2444.

Abrasion Resistance

Philmac has engineered and manufactured the 3G Compression fitting series to be suitable for use with abrasive slurries. This means that the fittings will withstand the normal flow conditions found in urban, mining, industrial, rural water, and waste water applications.

Weathering

Philmac 3G Compression fittings are engineered from materials specifically designed for above ground installations without the need of additional protection. The thermoplastic materials used in the construction of the fittings contains pigments which prevent damage due to UV radiation. 

Thermal Insulation

The Philmac 3G Compression fittings are constructed of polypropylene, which has a natural insulation factor 2000 times greater than common copper and 200 times greater than common steel. As a result the thermal transfer of energy through the fitting body is greatly reduced, meaning less possibility of condensation.

Light Transmission

Simply said, the Philmac 3G Compression fittings do not transmit light. The all black bodied design eliminates any potential for light transmission through the fitting which protects potable water flowing through the fitting from growth of micro-organisms.

Effect on Water

Philmac 3G Series Compression fittings are CSA and NSF certified for potable water. They are found not to impart to water any odour, taste, colour, or any constituents in concentrations that could be harmful.

Q – Does the compression side of Philmac 3G Compression series fittings require the use of plumbers (PTFE Teflon) tape during installations?

A – Philmac 3G Compression fittings incorporate Philmac’s unique Slide and Tighten ™ technology. All you need to do is cut the pipe straight and install the fitting as provided with adjustable/ pump pliers, no extra plumbers (PTFE Teflon) tape or solvents are required. When installing Philmac 3G Compression fittings with Male MIP or Female FIP adapter plumbers (PTFE Teflon) tape will be required to create a positive seal.

 

 

Q- What does the number within the square on the exterior of the Philmac 3G Compression fitting body mean?

A – The number within the square on the outside of the Philmac 3G Compression fitting body refers to the body size of the fitting. The body size of the fitting determines the applicable sizes of piping that the fitting body is compatible with. For instance, a body size 3 fitting can with the proper conversion kit adapt to 1 inch CTS, 3/4 inch IPS-SIDR, 3/4 inch IPS-OD, 3/4 inch Composite/ Q-Line and 3/4 inch Copper.
