MilliAMP ELCI/GFCI

MilliAMP is an Equipment Leakage Circuit Interrupter (ELCI/ GFCI) designed for electrical equipment and shock protection of sewage pumps, water pumps, heating cables and many other electrical appliances. It is a product that can complement every small pump with special attention to submersibles installed within lakes and rivers. For submersible pumps of all types where this device is utilized, we recommend the ACWU90 or Teck90 cable where applicable and sealed from moisture ingress to reduce insulation resistance breakdown (IR drop).

Features

The MilliAMP MA-10 is a equipment protection device engineered to provide standalone 10mA GFCI/ELCI equipment protection. Compatible with both 120 volt 20 amp and 240 volt 16 amp circuits. Applications include water supply pumps and heating cable devices.

Traditionally, ground fault protection is handled by the electrical trade in the form of a receptacle or circuit breaker normally purchased through reputable electrical distributors only. Heat-Line determined that plumbing / mechanical installers could also benefit from ELCI/GFCI protection devices for pumps and pressure systems of all types, and distributors indicated they would appreciate a new product that would complement the pumps they already sell.

With experience from the electrical side, Heat-Line decided there was an opportunity to develop a product that would provide a much higher level of electrical safety to the entire industry. In order to achieve this, Heat-Line developed a device that is easy to install and not specific to any particular electrical panels or equipment. The MilliAMP MA-10 is a safety and equipment protection device that can be used with any 120 volt appliances up to 20 Amps and or 240 volt appliances up to 16 Amps and is fully CSA approved.

Q – Is the MilliAmp device an electrical disconnect?
A – No. The MilliAmp is a certified Equipment Leakage Circuit Interrupter (ELCI/GFCI) designed for electrical equipment and shock protection of electrical equipment. It is not certified and or designed to be an electrical disconnect.

Q – Are there two different MilliAmp models for 120 volt or 240 volt?
A- No. MilliAMP is a certified, standalone 10 MilliAMP GFCI/ELCI Equipment Protection Device, compatible for both 120 volt 20 amp and 240 volt 16 amp circuits.

Q – Should a submersible water pump in a lake be GFCI protected?
A – Yes. In lakes and rivers, especially in swimming areas, the National and Canadian Electrical codes require submersible pumps to be GFCI protected. Operating a submersible pump in a swimming area without GFCI increases the risk of injury or death.

Q – Does the MilliAmp device come job-ready with a 120 volt or 240 volt plug like other Heat-Line products?
A-MilliAMP is supplied complete for installation in 120 volt and 240 volt applications with ¾ inch electrical knockouts for hard-wired connection. Installation is to be made by a qualified electrician and must be inspected by local electrical authorities before use.

Q – If the power fails, do I have to reset the MilliAmp device?
A – No. The MilliAmp GFCI is designed as such that power outages do not require the unit to be reset.

Q – Should the MilliAmp device be tested on a regular basis?
A – Yes. The MilliAmp GFCI device should be tested on a monthly basis by following the test and rest directions within the product installation instructions. Further to testing, you should also record the records of testing directly on the date code checklist affixed to the MilliAmp device.
