How to Start Up and Shut Down Plug-In Heat-Line Heating Cable Systems - Heat-Line Freeze Protection Systems

How to Start Up and Shut Down Plug-In Heat-Line Heating Cable Systems

In this month’s video blog, we explain how to manage seasonal operation for applicable plug-in Heat-Line self-regulating heating cable systems, using Retro-Line as the example shown.

Seasonal operation depends on your control setup:
– If your system has a thermostat control, there is typically no need to manually plug and unplug the system each season. The thermostat will call for heat only when conditions require freeze protection.
– If your system uses a timer control, it should be unplugged once freeze protection is no longer needed, since the timer will continue supplying power on its set schedule.
– If your system has no control device, plug it in to the appropriate power supply when freeze protection is needed and unplug it once the season has passed.

When the system is powered, check the ground fault device and confirm the pilot light is on. Once the freeze risk has passed in spring, unplug the system from power according to your system setup. The light will go out, confirming the system is off and safely disconnected for the summer season.
