How to Prevent a Water Softener Drain Line from Freezing Outside with Retro-Line Mini
In this month’s video blog, we discuss how the Retro-Line Mini can prevent a water softener drain line from freezing outside. Water softeners require regular regeneration or backwash cycles, and in rural areas where septic systems are common, it is recommended not to backwash into the septic system. Instead, a separate drainage line leading to a dry well or French drain is commonly installed. However, water softener drain lines can freeze in cold climates if not buried below the frost line along the entire length of the drainpipe, making freeze protection essential.
Installing a self-regulating heating cable inside the pipe is an excellent solution for this issue. The Retro-Line Mini, designed to be installed inside small-diameter pipes, is an advanced self-regulating heating cable system that ensures water softener drain lines will not freeze outside. It is well suited for water softener drain lines, which can be intermittently filled with water or dry. Unlike outdated heat tape, the Retro-Line Mini will never overheat, whether the pipe is dry or full of water, and it is exceptionally easy to install.
